About INSTONIANS MENS HOCKEY
Instonians Men’s Hockey Club (IMHC) was founded in September 1959 and has grown from modest beginnings into one of the most successful and respected hockey clubs in Ulster and Ireland. What began with 14 players competing in Intermediate League hockey quickly gathered momentum, with a series of promotions culminating in senior status by the 1965–66 season — a level the club has proudly maintained for over 60 consecutive years.
Throughout its history, IMHC has enjoyed sustained success at provincial, national, and international levels. The club has won multiple Irish Senior Cups, Irish Club Championships, league titles, and has represented Ireland in European competitions across A, B, and Challenge divisions, achieving notable success including winning the European Challenge Cup. Today, the club’s 1st XI competes in the EY Hockey League Division 2, continuing a strong All-Ireland presence.
IMHC is built on a strong sense of family, inclusion, and lifelong participation. With four senior teams fielded weekly, a thriving youth academy, and players ranging from school age to international over-65s competition, the club values contribution at every stage. Supported by outstanding facilities at Shaws Bridge, and guided by generations of dedicated volunteers and leaders, Instonians Men’s Hockey Club remains proud of its heritage and optimistic about its future.
